About St. Osmund, Salisbury
St. Osmund, Salisbury is a Roman Catholic church in Salisbury, Wiltshire. It is part of the Diocese of Clifton.
Introduction
Saint Osmund's Church in Salisbury, within the Diocese of Clifton, was built in 1847-48 by Augustus Welby Northmore Pugin.
History
The foundation stone of Saint Osmund's was laid in April 1847. The north aisle was added in 1894 by D Webb. The church is built of coursed flint with stone dressings and has a south west tower with a pyramid slate roof.
Architecture and furnishings
The altar in the south chapel is by Pugin, and there is an elaborate font with fleur-de-lys in quatrefoils. The east and two south windows are by Pugin, made by Hardman of Birmingham, with one south window inscribed 'ex voto' by Pugin, dated 1850. The church has a large gable over the nave with a slate roof. The interior has arcades with foliate capitals low.
Parish life
The parish runs a wide range of faith and social activities in the Parish Centre and at St Gregory's Hall. The parish runs a Parish Rosary Group. The parish runs baptism preparation courses at both St Gregory's and St Osmund's.
