About Saint Roch (Garngad)

Saint Roch (Garngad) is a Roman Catholic church in Garngad, Glasgow City. It is part of the Archdiocese of Glasgow.

Introduction

Around 1506, James IV of Scotland built a chapel dedicated to Saint Roch near here.

History

A chapel dedicated to Saint Roch, built in 1506, was destroyed in 1559 during the Reformation, although its attached cemetery remained in use for many years afterward. The church and its primary school were erected in 1907 to serve the growing Irish population in Garngad. The parish prepares parents for infant baptism through meetings to review the faith into which the child is to be baptised.
