About SS Peter and Paul, Clerkenwell
SS Peter and Paul, Clerkenwell is a Roman Catholic church in London, Greater London. It is part of the Archdiocese of Westminster.
Introduction
SS Peter and Paul, Clerkenwell, in London, was formerly known as the Rosoman Street Mission before becoming the Roman Catholic Church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul.
Architecture and furnishings
The building was leased to Roman Catholics from 1847. The church is built of gold stock bricks in English bond with stucco ground-floor, dressings and rusticated quoins. The church has a fine C19 gallery supported on slender cast-iron Ionic columns with balustraded cast-iron panels of gilded Gothic-style tracery. The original flat ceiling has square coffering, gilded rosettes and three elaborately patterned cast iron ceiling roses.
Sacraments and pastoral care
Baptism preparation requires regular Sunday Mass attendance and preparation classes, both equally essential. Young people's Confirmation classes are a two-year programme. Adults and university students must follow the RCIA programme to receive Confirmation.
