St Philip Evans - LLlanedeyrn

Introduction

The parish was established in 1975, with Sunday Masses initially celebrated at Llanedeyrn High School before moving to St Philip Evans School later that year.

History

A church hall for social and community events was built in 2000. In October 2015, Mass was celebrated to mark the 30th anniversary of the church's dedication.

Music and liturgy

The Singing Group supports the Sunday morning Parish Liturgy by singing Mass settings and hymns. The Singing Group leads and encourages parishioners to sing out in Mass and teaches new hymns and Mass settings to the parish. Instrumentalists within the parish are encouraged to join the group to accompany the music for Masses.

Parish life

The parish serves Llanedeyrn, Pentwyn, Pontprennau and St Edeyrn's Village, with two primary schools and close links to Corpus Christi High School. Any child up to age 7 can be presented for baptism if one parent or guardian is Catholic or a regular attender preparing to become Catholic.

Most weddings performed at the parish are between a Catholic and someone who isn't Catholic. Separate fees and booking arrangements apply for hiring the Parish Hall for a wedding reception.

The parish assists individuals and families in preparing for the Sacrament of the Sick. Holy Communion at Home can be offered to any Catholic who cannot attend church due to infirmity or caring for others.
