St Brigid – Cardiff

Introduction

The original hut church at St Brigid's was replaced by the present building in 1964, during the Second Vatican Council.

Music and liturgy

A 3 Churches Liturgy Group meets regularly to plan the liturgy in the churches, composed of volunteers from all 3 Churches who have responsibility for particular ministries and those with an interest in the liturgy.

Parish life

The 3 Churches Pastoral Advisory Council was established in October 2025, replacing the previous Parish Councils for Christ the King and St Brigid’s with St Paul’s. A list of names is published in the 3 churches newsletter under ‘Prayers / Prayers for the sick’ for readers to remember in their prayers.

The parish has a Bereavement Support Group. St Brigid’s church offers live video streams of its services.

Sacraments and pastoral care

A period of six months' notice is usually required to arrange a wedding. Preparation for parents takes place most months, with responsibility shared with St Teilo's in Whitchurch.

The First Communion programme runs from early in the calendar year with services in May or June, following the 'Called to His Supper' programme. Those sick at home or in a residential facility can request a visit or Holy Communion by contacting the priests. Pastoral care for patients in Cardiff hospitals is arranged through the Cardiff and the Vale Chaplaincy team, covering UHW, Noah's Ark Children's Hospital, Llandough, Velindre, Rookwood, St David's and Barry.
