About St Teilo

St Teilo is a Roman Catholic church in Cardiff, South Glamorgan. It is part of the Archdiocese of Cardiff-Menevia.

Introduction

The parish of St Teilo's was founded in 1925. The former parish hall was built and opened by Archbishop Mostyn on 4th April 1925.

History

The first Mass in Whitchurch since the Reformation was said at the outhouse of the Fox and Hounds on 3rd February 1924, celebrated by Canon Hannon, later Bishop of Menevia. On 10th May 1943, a parachute mine fell on Glan-y-Nant Road adjacent to the church, killing fire-watcher Richard Hopkins. A stained glass window showing an apple tree in honour of St Teilo was installed as part of the church refurbishment in 2004-05.

Parish life

Parishioners with a gift or skill in music or singing are invited to participate within the music team. The Reaching Out Project was selected to receive funding from Caritas Cardiff and Menevia.

Many from Saint Teilo's attend the Sunday Vigil Mass at Our Lady of Lourdes, and many from Gabalfa travel to Saint Teilo's for Sunday Mass, with the enlarged parish enjoying a wider range of social activities together. The parish bereavement team is available to help families through the grieving process.

The parish keeps a prayer list of sick parishioners and encourages daily prayers for them. The parish newsletter is available in print at the back of the church.
