About St Teresa of the Child Jesus

St Teresa of the Child Jesus is a Roman Catholic church in Borehamwood, Hertfordshire. It is part of the Archdiocese of Westminster.

Introduction

In 1955, the Parish was divided into two when SS John Fisher & Thomas More was built.

History

The first mass in the Parish of Borehamwood was celebrated on 14th June 1925 in a house called The Grange, owned by Mr RA Caramen, with a chapel holding 50 people. In 1939 a second hall was erected on the site of the current church, used as a social hall before being taken over by the Ministry of Food during World War Two.

Parish life

The parish has enjoyed day trips to Bruges, Southend, Clacton and Chessington World of Adventure, and pilgrimages to Hyde Park and Birmingham during the Papal Visit. The Pastoral Assistant helps run the main Catechetical Programmes each year.

Visiting

The parish provides a car park at the back of the church for those attending Mass, and it often fills to capacity during busy periods. The Annual Parish Party and Hog Roast is one of the parish's main social and fundraising events of the year. Annual International Lunches are held in September or October for the feast day of St Teresa, celebrating the diversity of the parish. The young persons group called Impact was set up with help from the Young Christian Workers.
