About Assumption of Our Lady

Assumption of Our Lady is a Roman Catholic church in Leeds, West Yorkshire. It is part of the Diocese of Leeds.

Introduction

In 1955 a second Mass centre opened at the Dutton Arms, Beckett Park, and attendance grew from 60 to 120. The parish was declared in September 1954, taking territory from the Sacred Heart, St Mary's Horsforth, and St Urban's parishes.

Architecture and furnishings

The church features a Swiss chalet type porch, two aisles in a single nave, a raised sanctuary lit from roof windows, and a parquet floor. Spooners of Hull built this church in a contemporary style that also serves as a parish hall. The building seats 270 and cost £9,000. The first sod was dug on the morning of November 26th, 1956.

Sacraments and pastoral care

Parents may enrol their child on a first sacrament programme by speaking to a priest after Sunday Mass. Those interested in becoming Catholic can have a no-pressure conversation with a priest after Mass.
